“Summer Scents”
Desert Botanical Garden has teamed up with Mezcal Carreño to challenge local mixologists to create desert-inspired mezcal cocktails. The rules are simple—each cocktail has to include at least one desert ingredient and must feature mezcal. Check back into Your Garden At Home for the latest concoctions developed by the very best in Arizona mixology talent.
Kicking off the series, JT Taber, lead bartender of Otro Café, recalls growing up in Phoenix and one of his favorite Sonoran Desert memories—monsoons. There really isn’t anything like the smell of the desert after a summer rain, and his cocktail, which he calls “Summer Scents,” draws on those aromas. With monsoons becoming more scarce, Taber says this idea has become more sacred to him. Creosote is the star of this show, but it also features Angostura Bitters, clove, cinnamon, vanilla and refreshing lime juice.
You can sample “Summer Scents” at Otro Café beginning today (Sept. 18) through on-site dining and to-go orders.
Cheers to Mezcal Carreño, Otro Café and JT!
