Create a magical potion from nature!
Fairies and wizards are not the only potion makers.
Plants play a vital role in our lives. In fact, many modern-day medicines are derived from plants. Scientists are still learning all of the different ways plants can enhance our lives. Additionally, a large portion of the food enjoyed today originally came from plants, such as potatoes and tomatoes, in indigenous America. Plants not only provide nutrition but they also provide shade and oxygen for humans to enjoy.
Plant potions are a fun way to play with your senses and engage with nature using creativity and imagination. This activity is great for kids of all ages.

- Natural Materials
- Water or Extra Virgin Olive Oil

- Tarp or Towel

- Mortar and Pestle if available

- Gather natural materials.
- Some strong-smelling plants to add to potions are:
- Lavender
- Mint
- Pineapple
- Sage
- Rosemary
- Lemon Balm
- Wormwood
- Dill
- Jasmine
- Peppermint
- Geranium
- Roses
- Some colorful and interesting plants to add to potions include:
- Gourds
- Radish
- Jojoba
- Creosote

- Hummingbird Trumpet
- Look for seedpods and other natural elements to add to potion as well. You can also collect, mud or sand, wood shavings like bark and add food coloring with tongs and or tweezers.
- Some strong-smelling plants to add to potions are:
- After gathering all materials, add to a bowl and mash with a rock or a pestle.
- After mashing them together, add a liquid like water or oil to make it into a potion.
- Mix with a stick or stirrer.
- Place your potion in a container to enjoy.
You can do this activity repeatedly mixing in different natural ingredients to make different potions.
