OPEN DAILY 8 A.M.|7 A.M. FOR MEMBERS WED. & SUN.

Each fall, the Garden transforms into a stunning celebration of life, memory and culture during its annual Día de Muertos festival. This two-day event, held Nov. 1–2, is more than just a tribute to tradition. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning guest, here are the top five experiences you won’t want to miss:

The Monarch Butterfly Ofrenda
At the heart of the celebration is the breathtaking outdoor ofrenda (altar), a collaborative installation featuring the artistry of Oaxacan creators. This year’s theme centers on the monarch butterfly—a sacred symbol of spirit and return. The altar invites reflection on transformation, memory and the cyclical nature of life, beautifully blending nature with tradition.

Face Painting & Cultural Crafts
Get into the spirit with vibrant face painting inspired by calaveras (sugar skulls), a beloved Día de Muertos tradition. Families can also enjoy hands-on craft stations where kids and adults alike can create nicho boxes, paper flowers and decorate sugar skulls.

Sunset Procession Through the Garden
As the sun dips below the horizon, the Garden comes alive with a moving sunset procession. Guests join in accompanied by music and dance, honoring loved ones who have passed.

Live Music & Dance Performances
Throughout the festival, the Garden pulses with traditional music and dance. From Cachito Dance Project to XX, these performances celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Día.

Breathtaking Location
The Garden offers a breathtakingly symbolic setting for Día, where the vibrant celebration of life and memory unfolds amid the resilient beauty of the desert Experience golden marigolds, towering cactus and sunlit trails.
