Gertrude’s by Tarbell’s, nestled inside Desert Botanical Garden, offers a fresh new food experience brought to you by legendary PBS television host and James Beard-nominated chef Mark Tarbell. Focusing on ingredients directly from growers in Arizona and unique to the region, Gertrude’s by Tarbell’s extends the Tarbell’s experience and philosophy, rooted in delivering exceptional service, food and wine while fostering a culture of kindness, respect and integrity.

Gertrude’s by Tarbell’s is now opening bright and early at 6 a.m., giving guests a chance to enjoy the Garden mornings with something delicious to start the day.

6-7 a.m: Fresh Pastries & Coffee

7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Botanical Brunch Bites
Our new brunch window brings a mix of fresh, local and Garden‑inspired favorites.

4-9 pm. Dinner in the Garden
Enjoy hearty, desert-inspired options.

Patio Café

Daily | 7 A.M. – 2 P.M.

Tarbell’s has created a fresh and delicious grab and go style menu at the Patio Café location offering fresh tacos, salads, wraps, soups,
sweets, beverages and snacks.

Ready for a chill escape? Swing by the new Cactus Cantina at the Garden’s SRP Visitor Center and treat yourself to frozen cocktails,

Meet Mark Tarbell

Renowned chef and restaurateur Mark Tarbell, a James Beard Award nominee, Iron Chef America winner and one of Arizona’s most celebrated culinary innovators, has joined the Garden as the new culinary lead for Gertrude’s Restaurant and Patio Café. With a legacy of excellence spanning nearly four decades, Tarbell is beloved for his vibrant, ingredient-driven cooking, his approachable hospitality and his commitment to seasonally inspired menus that celebrate local farmers, ranchers and winemakers. His flagship restaurant, Tarbell’s, was named one of Food & Wine magazine’s “Best Restaurants,” and he is a two-time inductee into the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame. As the owner of acclaimed establishments including Tarbell’s, The Tavern, Tarbell’s Wine Store and Cultivate by Tarbell’s, he has built a reputation for bringing joy, warmth and world-class technique to every dining experience.
