Desert Botanical Garden Announces Exciting Adult Education Programming for Fall

September 29, 2022

Desert Botanical Garden announced new offerings of inspiring and life-enriching adult education classes. The theme of the Garden’s fall season is “Celebration of the Americas” and many of the classes are inspired by the incredible biodiversity as well as the cultural diversity of the Americas. Class registration is now available online at dbg.org and classes run through December 2022. Click here for a complete list of classes.

“We are excited to expand the Garden’s educational offerings for adults in the Phoenix area with new and exciting classes that explore multiple topics that will enrich the lives of our students,” says Andrew Cipriano, the Garden’s Senior Director of Education. “By partnering with diverse instructors, these adult education programs will provide guests and members one-of-a-kind experiences only the Garden can provide.”

On Oct. 20-23, join internationally-acclaimed Oaxacan artist Rufina Ruiz Lopez for an immersive clay sculpting workshop experience that celebrates the vibrant art history of Diá de Muertos. Discover how to incorporate your own life story into the craft of molding black/gray clay, or barro negro, that is culturally significant to the region of Oaxaca, Mexico. This series will be taught by Lopez in Spanish with an English interpreter.

Over the course of four days, learn about traditional techniques that incorporate a connection with nature and family history into the design and creation of an original clay sculpture. Participants will be able to choose a design option that best fits their comfort and skill level. * Class hours are Thursday and Friday from 5 – 9 p.m. | Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
