Desert Botanical Garden and SanTan Spirits Continues Partnership and Launches New Bourbon for the Garden’s Spirit Collection

April 10, 2025

Phoenix, AZ – Desert Botanical Garden and Chandler-based SanTan Spirits are launching a private label bourbon following the success of the Garden’s 85th anniversary commemorative gin label in 2024. This collaboration introduces a small batch of whiskey that is locally distilled, aged and hand bottled.

Gertrude’s Founders Bourbon will be available for purchase for $49.85 (no sales tax) at the Garden. The gin collection also is sold at the Garden for $39.85 for each bottle. The proceeds from each sale benefit the Garden and support its mission-driven work.

Gertrude’s Restaurant will feature two bourbon-based cocktails in its menu: A pomegranate Old-Fashioned and a modern version of an Old-Fashioned featuring herba mate-vanilla bean demerara.

“Partnering our spirits with Desert Botanical Garden once again is an incredible honor and privilege. Gertrude’s Founder’s Bourbon, distilled and aged right here in Chandler, was hand selected by the Garden’s team, a reflection of our shared commitment to sustainability and honoring Arizona’s rich resources. We can’t wait for people to experience its depth and character created by the desert climate,” said SanTan Brewing Company Sales Manager Alejandro Fontes.

The private label collection pays tribute to the Garden’s founders: philanthropist Gertrude Divine Webster and Swedish botanist Gustaf Starck. Last year, the Garden and SanTan Spirits launch a gin collection, Citrus Rose Gin: Juniper & Botanicals and London Dry Gin: Navy Strength, to celebrate its 85th anniversary. Gin pays homage to Webster’s affinity for a gin martini, according to Garden historians.

Visit the Garden and purchase your very own bourbon at the Visitor Center. Cash is not accepted.
