Families can get an up-close and unforgettable experience when monarchs and other native Southwestern butterflies return for our Fall Butterfly Exhibit. Get acquainted with thousands of butterflies, observe each stage of their life cycle and learn what actions we can take to protect them.

Exhibit Highlights
While inside the Butterfly Exhibit, don’t forget to stop by these locations for a chance to see the full life cycle of butterflies up close!

Host Plant Observation Station
This area boasts specialty host plants for adult butterflies to lay eggs on. Keep your eyes open for butterfly eggs on the plants and caterpillars munching, preparing to grow big and strong!

Butterfly Nursery
Once the caterpillars are big enough, they are moved into the Butterfly Nursery where they will continue growing until they form their chrysalis.

Emergence Chamber
Once metamorphosis is complete, adult butterflies will emerge from their chrysalis in our Emergence Chamber.

Harvester Ants
Take a peek inside our ant farm where you can watch Harvester Ants up close as they get to work on their community.

Insect Hotels
Surrounding the Butterfly Pavilion, take notice of the insect hotels that provide shelter and homes for beneficial insects such as butterflies, lacewings, lady bugs, bees and more!

Know Before You Go

For the health and safety of guests and butterflies, please note the following:

  • Please do not touch the butterflies; their wings are fragile and easily damaged.
  • Please do not pick the flowers; the butterflies need these blooms for food.
  • Watch your step inside the exhibit; sometimes butterflies rest on the paths.
  • Stroller and scooter parking is available at the Butterfly Pavilion entrance.
  • Please no food or drinks (besides water) allowed in the Pavilion.
