The Garden is excited for the second season of Read Between the Spines book club. A botanical twist to the traditional book club, featuring  books highlight the world of plants, horticulture and conservation

The first event of the season features a partnership with Arizona Columbine Garden Club. Photographer, Claire Takacs and Landscape Architect and planting design expert, Giacomo Guzzon will present and discuss their new book, “Visionary: Gardens and Landscapes for our Future”. They will share stunning imagery and key themes from a selection of gardens and public landscapes featured from around the world – all of which address innovative, inspiring and beautiful ways to work with our changing climate. A large portion of the book is dedicated to drought and climate appropriate planting, and two examples of gardens photographed in Phoenix, AZ by Colwell Shelor will be featured in detail.

Claire Takacs is a freelance photographer from Australia, who has specialised in capturing gardens and landscapes around the world for the past twenty years. Her work is known particularly for her use of light, and features regularly in international magazines, including Gardens Illustrated. She has contributed to many books, and her fifth title, Visionary: Gardens and Landscapes for Our Future was published in April 2024. Previous books: Dreamscapes, Australian Dreamscapes (Hardie Grant), Windcliff; A Story of People, Plants, and Gardens by Dan Hinkley (Timber Press) and Wild: The Naturalistic Garden, with text by Noel Kingsbury (Phaidon).

Giacomo Guzzon is a landscape architect and expert in planting design. He has taught planting design at several schools and universities, such as Sheffield, Greenwich and KLC, and currently serves as Head of Planting Design at the international landscape architecture firm Gillespies in London. He contributes to conferences and publications and has spoken in Hong Kong, the US, and throughout Europe. He is currently pursuing a PhD in plant science at the Technical University of Berlin.
