Beloved American civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been 92 year old today, Jan. 15. The nation will officially celebrate the legacy of his brave leadership in the civil rights and social justice movements on Monday, Jan. 18.
Dr. King taught us that dignity and true equality for all Americans can only be achieved through fervent acts of nonviolence and peaceful civil disobedience. His determination, patience and wisdom can guide us all, especially today, as we struggle to show our respect for all people and achieve the dream of true equality for all Americans.
Dr. King once said, “We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.” Achieving true social justice is not easy, and the path is long. The Garden is inspired by the legacy of Dr. King’s advocacy and activism, and committed to putting his teachings into action not just on the holiday that bears his name, but every day of the year.
