Picking a New Plant Family Member | Desert Botanical Garden

Welcoming something or someone special into your home can often be a refreshing change. When that something is a new plant, you can be sure that your space is about to brighten up several watts. What goes into picking out a new plant?

You’ve passed through the entrance tent at the Garden’s biannual Plant Sale and grabbed your program and cart. Where do you even start? Do you make a beeline for the succulent tent, or do you wander down the countless aisles of butterfly attractors, rose bushes, desert species and more? The sun is shining especially bright that day, so you make your way to the succulent tent. After what feels like hours of perusing the tents and aisles, you’ve decided you need to go back to the one that caught your eye, the one you keep thinking about. Once you’ve made your way back, you realize that this was the one all along. You’ve made your choice, and now it’s time to make it official. The volunteers at the check-out are excited to help and now you have done it. You have adopted your plant.

While the Garden is home to thousands of its own plants, the ones you bring home become a part of your family. They are yours to care for, and that is pretty special. Once your plant makes its way to the perfect spot, you’ve given it a forever home.

Here are just a few of the plants that have been united with their forever home through the Garden’s Plant Sale. Tag @dbgphx in photos of your plant adoptions from Desert Botanical Garden.
