Create a stunning, long-lasting driftwood centerpiece with mini orchids and other small plants, living moss and natural dried elements. Get hands-on support and all necessary tools to create a long-lasting orchid display perfect for a table, mantle or kitchen island. Instructed by Jennifer Balcom. Garden admission included.

Garden Essential: Orchid Fever Exhibit Walk and Q&A

Fridays | March 28; April 18; May 2, 8-9:30 a.m.

Take a trip with experienced orchid growers through the orchid display to admire the vibrant colors and intricate shapes and learn more about these fascinating plants. A question and answer period will follow; bring any orchid-related questions you have for experts from Desert Valley Orchid Society. Garden admission included with class purchase.

Garden Essential: Orchid 101: Potting and Intro to Orchid Care

Fridays | April 11, 25; May 9, 1-3 p.m.

Join us for an orchid potting class for beginners and plant enthusiasts alike. Learn the essentials of selecting the right medium, fertilizer and techniques for growing in the desert. Learn how to repot a Phalaenopsis orchid and receive tips for repotting orchids and caring for them at home. Instructed by experts form Desert Valley Orchid Society. Garden admission included with class purchase.

Join us during our inaugural orchid exhibit, Orchid Fever, for a talk by Erica Hannickel, author of the award-winning book “Orchid Muse”. Inspired by Charles Darwin’s work with orchids, Hannickel interweaves stories of the past to highlight and celebrate the role of this fascinating plant in promoting an end to slavery in America and around the world.

What is the cancelation policy?

Desert Botanical Garden reserves the right to cancel programs at its discretion. Programs will run as scheduled, regardless of weather, unless participants are contacted directly by Garden staff either by phone or email. We reserve the right to substitute any instructors in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

What is the refund policy?

To receive a refund,  a written request is required at least five days before the scheduled date of your class or program. Please send your written request to Education Registrar Amy Bowman at [email protected].

The class I want to attend is sold out. Is there a wait list I can be added to?

Yes. At the end of the class description, there is a line that says “Class sold out? Get on a waitlist here” with a link to the waitlist button. Please click on the link and for the class you would like to be added to the wait list. If a participant cancels, a staff member will reach out to the provided phone number to add you to the registration list. Payment will be collected before you attend the class.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept most credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express). For your protection, we do not store your credit card number after the transaction is complete. Please do not close your browser until you have reached our Confirmation page and can print your ticket(s).

What do I need to bring with me to the class?

Please present your ticket on your phone or a printed ticket sent in a confirmation email after registering. All materials are generally provided for classes. If any additional materials or supplies are required, you will receive that information in a follow up email from the Education Registrar prior to the class.

What ages can participate in Adult Education offerings?

Children under 10 may not attend. Children ages 10-14 may attend adult education programs with an adult and both must pay fees. Those 15 and older may attend without an adult.

Are participants allowed to eat or drink inside classrooms?

Participants are allowed to bring water bottles. No outside food will be allowed in indoor spaces. For cooking classes,all food supplies will be provided by the Garden unless otherwise indicated.

Is general admission included with class registration?
Garden admission is included with class purchase. Admission can be redeemed immediately before and after class only. It cannot be redeemed outside of the class date.
