| Ballet Arizona and Desert Botanical Garden are proud to present the Arizona premiere of MOMIX: Botanica. This unique show will be performed at the historic Orpheum Theater on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 8 p.m.; and on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are available through ticketmaster.com or by calling the Ballet Arizona box office at 602-381-1096. General public ticket prices range from $17 to $121; exclusive discounts are available to Desert Botanical Garden members and Ballet Arizona subscribers. Ticketmaster and Ballet Arizona box office fees apply. Beautiful and enthralling, Botanica is the perfect show for the entire family. The show features an eclectic score ranging from bird songs to Vivaldi. Choreographed by Moses Pendleton, it follows the rhythms of the seasons, the changing shape of life on Earth and the passing of a day. The performance is enhanced by spectacular costumes, projections and giant puppetry designed by Michael Curry, acclaimed production designer for Cirque du Soleil, Disney and the Metropolitan Opera. Since debuting MOMIX’s newest creation Botanica in Italy last winter, it has played to packed houses and rave reviews around the world. Botanica, like other MOMIX creations, creates a magical and ethereal world. MOMIX dancer-illusionists conjure a world of surrealistic images using light, shadow, props, humor and the human body. “I had the good fortune of seeing Botanica with my family several years ago in New York City,” said Ken Schutz, executive director of the Desert Botanical Garden. “Even though I had seen the company perform before, I was stunned by the beauty and artistry of Botanica. My family turned to me and said, ‘You should do this at the Garden!’ Our event venue size prevents us from having the show on our property, but through our collaboration with Ballet Arizona, we are able to bring it to Phoenix.” The presentation of Botanica, in Phoenix, is made possible by a collaboration between Ballet Arizona and Desert Botanical Garden. This collaboration, Dance in the Desert, includes: Topia, a world premiere production by Ballet Arizona Artistic Director Ib Andersen. Topia will be performed in May 2012, in an outdoor performance space at the Desert Botanical Garden. |
