Guided Girl Scout programs have concluded for the 2012-2013 season. During May through August 2013 we will only be offering the Desert in the Dark program (see below). Guided program booking will begin in early August.

New this summer

Bring your Girl Scouts to the Desert Botanical Garden to experience Desert in the Dark during our Flashlight Tour program. This brand new experience introduces scouts of all levels to desert astronomy, nocturnal animals, and even a chance to interview a staff member who works at night!

Desert in the Dark | Registration Open

Program fee: $6 / scout and $6 / chaperone

What is our desert like in the dark? Scouts will experience the Sonoran Desert at night while learning about the stars and nocturnal animals through this self-guided program. Available Thursdays and Saturdays from 7 - 9 p.m., May 30 through August 31. Registration begins March 1. To register please contact the Children’s Registrar at 480 481.8121 or email teacherRSVP@dbg.org. All levels of Girls Scouts are welcome.

Guided Programs | Registration open early August

Our Desert Discovery programs will create a fun and memorable experience for girls as they learn about life in our desert.

Girls will experience nature first hand and will connect with each other and our desert community. Troops can select the topic and time that works for them. Participants of each tour will receive a participation patch as they complete activities that help them fulfill requirements to earn Girl Scout badges.

Bountiful Butterflies

Program fee: $8/scout and $8/chaperone

Learn about the life cycle and habitat requirements of butterflies. Scouts will visit the Marshall Butterfly Pavilion. Available October, November, March, April and May. Daisies, Brownies and Juniors are welcome.

Bugs and Beyond

Program Fee: $6/scout and $6/chaperone

Insects and other invertebrates thrive in the desert. Scouts will explore numerous desert habitats while learning how to identify five different insect species. Available October through May. Daisies, Brownies and Juniors are welcome.

Sonoran Survivors

Program fee: $6/scout and $6/chaperone

Where is the water and why is our desert so hot? Scouts will learn about conditions in a desert and how desert plants and animals are able to thrive in such an extreme place. Available October through May. Daisies, Brownies and Juniors are welcome.

Program Capacity

For all programs capacity is 5 scouts minimum, 25 scouts maximum. For a more intimate experience, and for ease of navigating the Garden please be prepared to break groups larger than 17 girls into smaller groups. Chaperones should be assigned to each group.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

A credit card deposit of $35 will be required upon requesting a program. This deposit will only be processed if your troop gives less than 2 week’s notice of cancellation OR if the number of scouts arriving is four or more less than the program was scheduled for.
